My Country
By Daryl Dedman
With all the 'free' time I now have since we sold our business of Series 567 Rail Video, I had to find something to fill in this gap of just sitting around.  As you can see I decided with my large collection of photos that I have taken in my travels around this great country to do a book.
You can preview the first 15 pages by clicking on the link 'Book Preview' shown under the picture.  The book can be purchased from Blurb (in the USA) or you can contact me direct, as I have copies available.  Price for the 38 page book is $55.00 which includes return postage within Australia.

Here is my 2nd book.  You can preview the first 15 pages by clicking on the link 'Book Preview' shown under the picture. Since publication of the original article ‘Farewell Melbourne Yard’ in the October 1998 Australian Railway Historical Society (Victorian. Division) magazine, 'Newsrail', additional information has been found amongst my book collection.  This has allowed for the original article to be updated for this publication.  The document in a manila folder, titled, '1970 - Melbourne Freight Terminal and Hump Yard Re-Arrangement' was compiled by John Millard, the first Safeworking Officer appointed to the West Tower and presented to Gerald Dee (1934 - 2000) who was the Assistant Superintendent of Locomotive Running at that time.  It was presented to me by Gerald prior to his retirement in June 1989.The book details the changes that took place when the Melbourne Yard was converted to a Hump Yard.  The article is accompanied by 41 colour and B&W photographs that show the various facets of work that took place during the change, and is printed on Premium paper with a soft cover.  The book also includes 6 colour photos of the H class locomotive doing various tasks, from their role as a Hump locomotive to working freight and passenger trains.  ‘The Long Cold Ride’ is a story I wrote for a competition conducted by the Australian Federated Union of Locomotive Enginemen (AFULE) and as part of that competition it appeared in the Locomotive Journal, July/August 1984 edition.  It was also reproduced in the November 1988 issue of the ARHS (NSW) Bulletin magazine.  The story, although fictional, was based on my experiences whilst I was stationed at Valley Heights Locomotive Depot in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales as a Trainee Engineman, from March 1964 until November 1964.
The cost of ‘Farewell Melbourne Yard’ is $65.00 which includes return postage.  Payment can be made by Personal Cheque or Money Order to D. Dedman at P.O. Box 239, Heathcote, Vic. 3523.
Credit card payment CANNOT be accepted.
Copies of 'Farewell Melbourne Yard’ are still available.
