A high marking ruckman from Xavier College who spent the earlier part of his career as a "set" defender because Patterson and Crowe held the main ruck positions. He was 19th man in the 1967 flag side, but by the Tigers' next win two years later he was number one ruckman. He dominated the ruck deuls in the 1969 final series. Mobile, a fine mark and a good kick, he was at his best in big games. The demands of a law career probably stopped

him from being one of  the games greats. He retired in 1972, but
within 24 hours of Richmond's grand final loss that year he was
phoned by Graeme Richmond asking him to return. He played in
another twopremiership sides and even retired briefly for a second
time early in 1975 before finally calling it quits at the age of 27.
