Recruited from Geelong College, Andrews
became a fine key postion
player (mainly at centre half-forward) for Geelong. He kicked the
winning goal in his first game and topped Geelong's goalkicking with
35 goals in his debut season of 1965. For most of his first season he
was full-forward in place of the injured Doug Wade. In later years he
developed into a more tha handy utility player as a centre
half-back,
ruck-rover or centre half-forward. His awkward kicking style raised
eyebrows, but he managed to dispose of the ball effectively and made
up for any deficiencies by his strong marking. Andrews missed the
1971 season when he travelled overseas. Andrews, who played in
Richmond's 1974 premiership side, later became a Tiger administrator
and then a television and radio commentator before returning to the
Cats as club director.
