Hand Dyed/Hand Blended Wool

What's New

A free knitting pattern, so you can make this child's jumper. It's in colourful 6-ply Opal wool.

Sizes: 2 (4, 6).
Finished chest measurement approx: 66 (70, 75) cm
Materials: 1 (1, 1+) balls Opal 6ply Sockenwolle
3.75 & 4.5mm knitting needles

Back: With 3.75mm needles cast on 60 (64, 68) sts. Work in the rib of your choice for approx 10 rows. Change to 4.5mm needles and knit stocking stitch until work measures 36 (39.5, 43) cm. Cast off 20 (21, 22) sts loosely, knit to end. Cast off 20 (21, 22) sts loosely. Put remaining stitches on a stitch holder.

Front: Knit the same as the back until piece measures 32 (35, 38) cm, from beginning. (If you wish the pattern to match front and back you can do so by taking note of the pattern when you begin, eg. colours and dot sequence. Write them down!)

Shape neck: knit 26 (27, 29) sts, and work centre 8 (10, 10) sts onto a holder. (Here again you can match the pattern if you wish by knitting one neck side at a time and working out the colours and dots. Keep in mind that this can use up more wool.)

K2tog at each neck edge every row until 20 (21, 22) sts remain. Knit until front measures the same as back to the shoulders. Cast off both shoulders loosely.

Sleeves: Using 3.75mm needles cast on 28 (32, 36) sts and rib approx 12 rows - inc 1 stitch at each end of row. (The same instructions apply if you want the two sleeves to match). Change to 4.5mm needles and increase at each end of every four rows until 56 (60, 64) sts. Continue until sleeve measures 22 (25, 28) cm. Cast off loosely.

Finishing: Sew shoulder seams. Right side facing, & using 3.75mm needles pick up approx 60 (64, 68) sts (including stitch holders ones). Rib for approx 6 rows or double if you wish to double the neck band and sew under. Sew the remaining seams and be delighted with your cleverness!
