| The Society held its first meeting in 1986, in Ballarat. Ballarat is a 1850's Gold Rush town in the State of Victoria in southern Australia. The Society grew from small beginnings to now be one of the largest firearm collecting organizations in country Victoria.
We are one of six independent organizations in the State, all of whom having a firearm based collecting interest. In addition, the Society is also an approved shooting organization (Hunting and Target Shooting) under the Vic Firearms Act, so Members can hold category A+B arms using membership as "Reason to Own"
We hold monthly meetings in Ballarat on the last Wednesday of the month, except in December and January and usually a BBQ in February.
Our interests include the collection of Military and Sporting Longarms, Black Powder firearms, Collectable handguns, Edged Weapons & Knives, Ammunition and Ordinance, Badges, Medals, Uniforms, Maps, Books, Documents and General History.
The Society also assists members of the public with answers to questions relating to our collecting interests.
We also publish a bi-monthly newsletter, "Fusillade", that we distribute to our membership and to other companion organizations around Australia.
For the last 20 years, we have organized an annual Militaria Fair in Ballarat and intend to continue to do so. This site will have details some 3-4 months prior to the event.
Our current restoration project is a WW1 150mm 1917 Krupp howitzer, rescued from the probability of being scrapped. Photos of the latest stage of the project will be pasted on this web site. Anybody who has a similar ongoing project is welcome to contact us and get information as we learn, or share their experiences, which will assist us.
Most recently, we have entered an agreement with Ballarat City Council to refurbish the 3 other WWI 150mm German howitzers owned by Council. This it is anticipated to be a 5 year project.
